WeHo’s Newest culinary experience: Blue Birdy Gastropub Opens on Sunset Strip Near legendary Whiskey A-Go-Go

Sunset Strip’s Blue Birdy Gastropub Opens Near legendary Whiskey A-Go-Go

Located two doors down from the legendary Whiskey A-Go-Go is a brand-new culinary experience.

Blue Birdy offers up some super tasty gastropub fare on the iconic Sunset Strip.

Blue Birdy opened its doors to amazing success in early 2024, due largely to its chef and owner JC Mahdavi.

JC is no stranger to success since he’s been in the restaurant business, having owned Joxer Daly’s in Culver City for many years. His formula is great food mixed with solid cocktail recipes. Joxer Daly’s is an Irish Pub/Sports Bar with a neighborhood feel, a true staple in the culinary landscape of Los Angeles.

He brings that same philosophy to Blue Birdy but with more of an upscale vibe.

Blue Birdy has a French-influenced menu. JC implements his family’s recipes, hailing from France, he knows what good mouthwatering food is and how to create it.

“I want my customers to feel comfortable at Blue Birdy,

a place that they can come to and leave the stress of their day behind,

enjoy great libations and wonderfully inspired gastropub cuisine.”

owner JC Mahdavi

Blue Birdy’s menu includes a wonderful specialty cocktail program, all made from scratch.

The Boom Ba Da packs a nice punch, with its smooth lemon flavor and gorgeous presentation.

Strawberry Fields is a nice refreshing blend of champagne vodka and strawberry puree, almost like a smoothy but with a nice marriage of citrus essences, which has a great mouth feel. Brunch items are huge and super tasty.

Their French Toast is unlike any other, with ube, cream cheese, and sugar-filled, it’s purple and really is amazing. The Short Rib Benedict is comfort brunch at its best, a must-try.

Their Noodle Salad is perfect for the health-conscious diner as well as their tempura asparagus. Entree menu items include Lemon Herb Chicken, Steak and Fries, Fish & Chips, Teriyaki Salmon, and lots of Burgers – all simply delectable.

Whatever you order, you too will be surprised at how great their food is.

The sparkling interior gives you an elegant hipster vibe.  The subtle blue flowers that adorn the overhead light fixtures really create a cool, sensual feeling.

Striations of blue linear lines are part of the overall flooring. Highlighted on one wall is a floor-to-ceiling LED flat-screen TV wall, that is guaranteed to bring in many sports fans for those big-ticket games, with many additional screens both inside and out.

Blue Birdy can accommodate inside seating as well as a front street-level patio and a back patio for more of a secluded experience, it’s the perfect spot for a private party.

There are plans for different themed nights. So far, Tropical Thursdays are guaranteed to get your Salsa on. Friday will be dress-up Drag Night, and Saturday is Shabhaye Tehran-LA. With all of the viewing opportunities, any night or day is a sports theme, but whatever the occasion, Blue Birdy will make your Sunset Strip experience one to remember.

Island-Inspired Cocktail Bar ‘Gin Rummy’ Opens on the Westside Memorial Day Weekend

Gin Rummy – An Island-Inspired Cocktail Bar Opens on the Westside Memorial Day Weekend

Renowned Los Angeles bar proprietor Jared Meisler (The Roger Room, Bar Lubitsch, The Friend and The Little Friend) and the exemplary team of David and Patti Reiss of Reiss Co. (The Brig and The Alibi Room) announce the opening of a new westside cocktail establishment, GIN RUMMY, on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The cocktail program is masterfully led by Beverage Directors Danilo Kim, formerly of The Alibi Room and Nueva and Marcus Ragas, whose resume includes The Chestnut Club and Caboco.

Located at 822 Washington Boulevard, Marina del Rey, adjacent to Meisler’s popular Little Friend, GIN RUMMY takes over NUEVA after a successful three-year run.

Meisler states that he and his partners saw a need for a large and welcoming bar space in the neighborhood.

Meisler states:

“I’ve always loved the cocktails that come from beach cultures, just as much as I love the imagery and feel of beachy bars. I see a through line between a Tiki Bar, a Cuban Rum Bar, a Mexican Cantina, a Brazilian Quisque, a Spanish Chiringuito and a Venice Beach watering hole. They’re all timeless, relaxed, and fun, serving fantastic and unique drinks…

“…Gin Rummy is an homage to all things Beach Bar, from Nautical to Tropical, in a vintage parlor.”

At this gateway to Venice, GIN RUMMY invites passersby to escape to the tropics and get swept away, sipping exotic cocktails and enjoying delicious snacks in a pirate’s lair.

Gin Rummy’s spacious 200-seat setting…

The spacious 200-seat setting… reimagined and designed by Jared Meisler creates a colorful and ornate island paradise marrying nautical and South Pacific themes with contemporary design.

Enter Gin Rummy’s large front door…

Enter GIN RUMMY through the large front door just off Washington and take in the huge zinc-top mahogany bar with shelves stacked with vast arrays of rum, gin, tequila, and mezcal along with decorative tchotchkes of ships in bottles.

A large bank of skylights above the bar provides soft sunlight during golden hour as guests relax in a convivial state of mind.

When dusk turns to night, the far wall is illuminated by a row of vintage island-themed pinball machines giving GIN RUMMY a timeless, comfortable feel.

As one’s eye travels the room, imbibers take in giant redwood beams supporting a tongue and grove ceiling adorned by funky glassware. Native and tribal prints cover the bar stools and wood booths.

Scattered around the room are mini palm trees and lush tropical plants adorned with brass ship hardware. The thick posts are wrapped in nautical rope and accented with imagery of Caribbean and Polynesian life, ocean and boats and jungle paintings. Other notes include large bone-inlaid mirrors, woven wood light fixtures, rattan chairs, and lazy ceiling fans for a sultry Key Largo effect.

On Gin Rummy’s Outside…

Outside, the convertible indoor/outdoor patio exudes a tropical sandy beachy village vibe, adorned with wood carvings and carved wooden mirrors. The natural oak tables are painted with checker and backgammon boards, inviting guests to linger and play games comfortably in reclined rattan chairs. Lush tropical foliage is covered by a mahogany pergola illuminating the space with brass ship lights.

Los Angeles’ Top Halloween Events in 2022 (Updated)

October is here!  Time for Los Angeles’ Top Halloween Events in 2022

The City of Angels hosts some of the US’s biggest parties – including the West Hollywood Halloween Parade.  But we’re going beyond, including both the biggest parties and also great events beyond Lala Land itself.

There’s plenty of ways to celebrate the spooky season this year in the SoCal, from family friendly fun to adult-level screams and scares.

We’re listing them all out for you, and updating them as we discover more.

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

Battle your favorite movie baddies at Universal Studios’ annual Halloween festivities, where big-budget scares meet iconic horror characters.

Your gang can navigate multiple scare zones and mazes, including ones based on the Weeknd (yes, from “Blinding Lights” singer ) , Halloween, The Black Phone, Killer Klowns from Outer Space and the OG classic trio of the Wolf Man, Dracula and the Mummy.

And more….!  The “Terror Tram” takeover of the studio tour will return with a Jordan Peele mash-up featuring the Tethered doppelgängers from Us in the Jupiter’s Claim area from Nope.

Los Angeles' Top Halloween Events in 2022

Danny Elfman returns to the Hollywood Bowl

Danny Elfman at the Bowl

Danny Elfman returns to the Hollywood Bowl for his best Halloween show yet!

This time he doesn’t only celebrate “A Nightmare Before Christmas”.  It’s even more!

Inspired by his Coachella success, it’s a high-energy, metal-meets-classical-meets silly and freaky – with plenty of funky – including songs from Oingo Boingo, and his famous film and TV music, including Batman, Edward Scissorhands and The Simpsons.

Cinespia

The Halloween spook classic continues!

In October, Cinespia will show The Thing and Carrie at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The series will host a gothic masquerade at the Los Angeles Theatre for a screening of Bram Stoker’s Dracula on Halloween weekend.

Delusion

In previous years,  Halloween fans screamed their way through the Victorian home and while on a Blade Runner-inspired hunt.

This year the celebrated immersive horror event returns to L.A. at a 147-year-old mansion where you and  your friends will “deprogram” a 1970s cult.

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Halloween Organ & Film

Every year the Walt Disney Concert Hall brings the spooky season into their music halls.  This year there will be a silent film screening  of the 1920 masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. accompanied by organist Clark Wilson for an extra eerie feel.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

This haunted Griffith Park hayride, which has been running for well over a decade now, returns to the mid-’80s fictitious town of Midnight Falls, inspired by Sons of Anarchy and Twin Peaks

Rooftop Cinema Club

Starting early in September a schedule of Halloween favorites will play at their El Segundo, Arts District and DTLA rooftops. The thrills continue as Halloween approaches, with Hocus Pocus, Get Out, Halloween, Coco and Beetlejuice, among more.

‘Frankenstein’ with Live Orchestra

The LA Opera and the Theatre at Ace Hotel partner again for a mash-up of live music and film.

Indulge in the Ace’s gothic auditorium for a screening of the 1931 Boris Karloff classic, Frankenstein, with live accompaniment from LA Opera Orchestra.

PS: the actual movie was released without a score, so composer Michael Shapiro was inspired to create an entirely original devilish soundtrack.

After the October 26 showing of the Ace’s “A Hitchcock Halloween,” join the fun for a haunted costume party in the hotel theater’s lobby.

Lucha VaVOOM: Bienvenido a la Twilight Zone

Lucha VaVOOM: Bienvenido a la Twilight Zone

Lucha VaVOOM: Bienvenido a la Twilight Zone

Lucha VaVOOM is a unique mix of sexo y violencia especially for the Mayan’s exuberant spectacle— Halloween-themed “Bienvenido a la Twilight Zone.”

Good vs. evil plays out in a sinful circus of masked Mexican wrestling, burlesque stripteasing and comedic commentating. Plenty of tequila and tamales as you party with Aztec dancers and luchadores.

Dita Von Teese Brings the world’s biggest burlesque show, ‘Glamonatrix’ to Los Angeles in 2023

Dita Von Teese announced that she will be bringing the world’s biggest burlesque show, ‘Glamonatrix’ to North America next year.

Produced by Live Nation, the 21-date tour kicks off on January 7th, 2023, in Seattle, WA at the Paramount Theatre, making stops across North America in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Orleans, New York, and more along with a special performance on Valentine’s Day at The Chicago Theatre.

The tour hits three cities in Texas, plus Dita’s home state of Michigan, with a finale show in Riverside, CA at the Fox Performing Arts Center on February 24th.

Dita’s burlesque show continues to break records as the biggest and most lavish burlesque show in history.

Dita Von Teese is About Confidence

Hot on the heels of her 41-show tour overseas in historic theaters, including The London Palladium, Opera Garnier Monte Carlo, Folies Bergère and Vienna’s Burgtheatre, Dita is thrilled to bring the Glamonatrix burlesque revue to cities across the United States and Canada.

The Glamonatrix Tour is produced and directed by Dita Von Teese

and sponsored by Sweet Gwendoline French Gin and Lashify.com, inventor of DIY Lash extensions.

“For me, burlesque has always been about finding my own confidence,

liberating the taboo of striptease with fantastical  stripscapes,

while encouraging others to indulge in and enjoy their own sensuality.

Glamour is the art of creating mystery and allure,

and the new “Glamonatrix” show speaks to unapologetic sensual power with a fun fetishistic twist.”

says Von Teese.

She continues, “I feel so fortunate that burlesque has come to symbolize a celebration of beauty and sensuality in many forms, a place where diversified icons take the stage and inspire others. I’m proud to be a part of the modern burlesque movement and I’m grateful to have the chance to tour with performers who change people’s minds about striptease.”

TICKETS: Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, September 16th at 10:00 AM Local Time on Ticketmaster.com.
