Newcomer Shauna Grace twists and turns with Shane West in Supernatural “Soul Trader”.
The screen fades up at the LA premiere of The Soul Trader and the first face we see reminds us of Hollywood Glamour. This screen siren kicks ass in a Charlize Theron, Scarlet Johannson, Anya -Taylor Joy kind of way.
It’s easy to fall in love with Shauna Grace; the camera certainly has. She leads the audience through an upscale party, to a business deal where she explains her very unique set of skills.
In this business deal, Grace’s character stares down characters played by heartthrob Shane West and TV legend Donna Mills.
If you love more of West’s character work, you’ll love him in this role. He rolls with the plot’s twists and turns with a smooth confidence that makes you want to see him in more mysteries, thrillers and heists. Is a David Mamet film in his future? We’d beg to see that!
We know Donna Mills as a 1980s sex symbol turned wine country icon. Here she delivers icy lines with a vulnerability that remind us why she is a famed on-screen heartbreaker.
Filmmaker Susan Dynner inspires great moments from her cast, but also creates ambience with cinematographer Mattias Schubert and a score by Jeff Russo (yes, that Jeff Russo from Fargo and Ripley) and an original script from Mike Underwood.
Twisty-Turny Thriller
For as short time-wise as a short film typically is, this one moves fast. Real fast. With an ending that feels like it freezes time. The crowded theater all leaned in at the last moment just before it ended. With a collective, “But what happens next?”
The Future of The Soul Trader
What happens next is both obvious and a mystery.
For the obvious, the short film, which has already received acclaim will continue on its film fest journey collecting honors and sparking meetings.
For the mystery, both Filmmaker Susan Dynner and Shauna Grace have revealed this is a proof of concept teaser to the feature film or TV series they want to make based on the concept.
Based on the crowds and applause in Cannes, NYC and now LA, it seems like this short is a sure bet for more.
Susan Dynner shared:
“Today’s audience is an example of our future. The theater was full of the entertainment industry and it played so well. Tides are shifting in Hollywood.
There are more opportunities than ever and we are excited to be getting so many meetings with those opportunities.”
Susan Dynner
At the LA after-party reception, both Shauna Grace and Susan Dynner were crowded with well-wishers and production companies.
I was able to pull Shauna Grace away for a moment to congratulate her and ask about the experience:
“This has already been one of the best experiences and it’s only the beginning. We are traveling around showing our short film that we are so proud of.
It’s so rewarding getting audience feedback. Hearing from companies who are as excited as we are and wanting to work with us. It’s all very exciting about the future.”
Shauna Grace
Story: An occult hitwoman has cornered the market for selling life-extending souls to the elite. But on her final hit before retirement, deadly competition emerges from the shadows.

Award-Winning Horror Hit “Soul Trader” Screens in LA for Calabasas Film Fest Sept 21, Susan Dynner, Shauna Grace in-person
Award-Winning Horror Hit “Soul Trader” Screens in Los Angeles Calabasas Film Fest Sept 21 1pm.
Award-winning short film The Soul Trader returns to Los Angeles to be screened as part of Calabasas Film Fest on Saturday September 21 at 1pm.
The Soul Trader is a 12 minute short proof of concept for a feature or series directed by Susan Dynner (Brick, Punk’s Not Dead, Code Blue: A Love Story) and starring Shauna Grace (Real Housewives…, Vanderpump Rules), Shane West (A Walk to Remember, ER, The Dirty South), Donna Mills (Knots Landing, Nope, Origin).
The story follows Coral Chase (Shauna Grace), an occult hitwoman who has the power to steal life-extending souls, which she then sells to vain, wealthy elites like Erica Claessen (Donna Mills), who clings to the crumbs of youth. She’s flanked by stoic bodyguard Damien (Shane West), who ultimately emerges from the shadows as her rival when she’s about to carry out a money-spinning hit at a target’s home and realizes she’s not the only one with murder in mind.
“We’re excited that the audience is falling in love with this story and
a strong female lead.
I want to keep sharing this story with audiences everywhere”
Director / Producer Susan Dynner
The short film launched at the Cannes Film Festival’s American Pavilion in May and has been gaining momentum ever since.
It won its first award just weeks later at the Manhattan Film Festival in NYC. Then more acclaim at Rock The Shorts in Beverly Hills and DC Shorts in Washington, DC, one of the country’s largest short film festivals.
Now it’s set to screen at many more festivals on the West Coast, East Coast and across the globe.
“I’m proud this project is inspiring so many women.
We meet people after every screening, women who are excited by the Coral characters.
Playing the role of Coral, working with our cast and crew has been incredible.
But the biggest thanks is the reaction from the audience.
Getting to meet people who are excited and inspired by the story and characters.”
Actress / Executive Producer Shauna Grace
Meanwhile the filmmaking duo Susan Dynner and Shauna Grace are busy taking meetings toward their next step.
What is their next step?
“This was always meant as a proof of concept short film to become a feature film or TV series.
With the sold-out screenings and awards, it just confirms our feeling that this story is so much bigger than a short.”
Susan Dynner
Actress Shauna Grace has been receiving strong reviews, comparing her on screen presence to other heroines including Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson.
Dynner’s experience as a studio development executive for visionaries such as Richard Donner and Wolfgang Peterson shines through. Also, her producing work on Sundance hit “Brick” and festival darling “Punks Not Dead” shows her ability to bring production value on a range of budgets.
Both Dynner and Grace will attend their Calabasas Film Festival screening on Saturday September 21 at 1pm and be available afterwards to discussion.
The Soul Trader is directed and produced by Dynner, written by newcomer Mike Underwood, photographed by Matthias Schubert (The Door Man, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, Shelter in Solitude), produced by Lauren Bancroft (The Making of Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, Wild Bitch, Bite Size Halloween), edited by David Hopper (God Bless America, In Between Songs, Rust Creek), and executive produced by Shauna Grace, with music composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo, Ripley, Star Trek: Discovery).

Beauty and Big Laughs ‘Models of Comedy’ with Ksenia, Peake, St. John at Ella Beverly Hills from Max Events
Ksenia, Peake, St. John! Beauty and Big Laughs ‘Models of Comedy’ at Ella Beverly Hills with Max Events
Max Events presents Models of Comedy in support of From the Heart Tribe and sponsored by Lamborghini, Ella Beverly Hills, Sixty Hotels, Neft Vodka.
What happens when you produce a comedy show starring some of the most beautiful people from around the world, including New Zealand, Germany, Russia, Denmark, Latin America, United Kingdom, United States and more?
The answer is fun-loving, raucous and big laughs.
Hot Night – Big Laughs ‘Models of Comedy’
The audience started off fun and flirty (thanks to St. John who we’ll get to in a sec), turned over the top, and by the end of the night there was a sing-a-long.
Eliza St. John
St. John was our host for the night who definitely set the tone: sexy, fun, flirty. Struts onto the stage, wiggling and dancing. Oozing with energy, she interrupts her own introduction to flirt with a guy in the front row – who she asks to slide into her DMs. Then asks the whole room to slide into her DMs.
A frisky start to a night that only gets hotter.
Eugenia Kuzmina
Eugenia has become a comic strip regular, performing throughout Los Angeles stages. She usually includes character work. But, tonight was a straighter performance, based on well-timed rat-a-tat style jokes. More relaxed, more comfortable. Her characters are fun, but here’s hoping she delves deeper into these scripted punchlines.
Christine Peake
“Oh My Gawwd,” a guy in the 3rd row gasps just seconds into Christine Peake’s act. And the gasps and howls only get louder! Her set is not for the faint of heart. She goes for the jugular. LA’s “woke” youngsters in the crowd gasped, while the older crowd hooted along.
In 2024 she is finding her wings and soaring. At Peake’s birthday show a few weeks ago, she broke new territory with her improvising. Tonight she brought new laughs with a mostly new (and growing) set.
Dominika Van Santen
Dominika won the Top Model of the World in 2005 and competed for Miss Venezuela Pageant, later she performed alongside Rihanna, Calvin Harris, Robin Thicke, J. Lo, Pitbull. Tonight she brought great laughs.
CJ Franco
Instantly recognizable from 2021’s FBoy Island and tonight she continues beginning the heat – smart and salacious. From threesomes to sex toys, she takes us into her bedroom and the crowd loves it. Laughs, cringes, and blushing – she keeps pushing to the edge and gleefully dancing off the cliff. Unafraid!
Thash Mose
Thash is a surprise discovery. A quieter delivery, which made the laughs all the bigger. From Disney’s “Frozen”, to drug addicts and the fashionably offensive. Nothing was off-limits and the audience loved her.
Night of Beauty, Laughs and Surprises at ‘Models of Comedy’
Ksenia
Ksenia was one of the biggest winners of the night. A mix of jokes, stories and songs. Yes, songs. And here’s the surprise: she has a great voice. She got the crowd to sing-along twice by the end. Seeing couples and strangers sway to the music, enjoying the moment. Ksenia is someone to watch for. Get a ticket to her next show!
Neft Vodka
The World’s First Sipping Vodka from Austria. Carefully selected for their soft and mild flavor profiles, Neft uses only Old-World non-GMO rye grains in their mash bill, imparting subtle sweetness and a luxuriously lengthy finish of soft, rye spice.
They are meticulous in their distillation process: using a copper still followed by continuous column distillation to extract only the highest quality spirit: the hearts. Neal Brennan: Blocks was adapted from Neal’s hit one-man show Unacceptable. Beloved Magician/Artist Derek Delgaudio (HULU’s In & Of Itself) directed both the Netflix special and the theatre run. The stage show had a sold-out NYC residency in the Fall of 2021, with Interview Magazine lauding “together, Brennan and DelGaudio have crafted a genre-bending show focused as much on fun and laughter as it is on intimacy and honesty” and Theatermania gushing “The comedians Neal Brennan has written for is insane….Even more insane (in the best way), is the material Brennan writes for himself.”
Neal’s critically acclaimed first off-Broadway one-man show 3 Mics also enjoyed a sold-out NYC run in 2016 with superstar musician John Legend serving as Executive Producer. 3 Mics was taped as a stand-up special, which premiered on Netflix in 2017, with Paste Magazine offering “It will floor you in the best way possible.”

He has helped create and performed in numerous TV series and films, developing what The New York Times calls his “hip-hop and Frontline aesthetic.” He regularly headlines the good standup venues in the good parts of America.

Island-Inspired Cocktail Bar ‘Gin Rummy’ Opens on the Westside Memorial Day Weekend
Gin Rummy – An Island-Inspired Cocktail Bar Opens on the Westside Memorial Day Weekend
Renowned Los Angeles bar proprietor Jared Meisler (The Roger Room, Bar Lubitsch, The Friend and The Little Friend) and the exemplary team of David and Patti Reiss of Reiss Co. (The Brig and The Alibi Room) announce the opening of a new westside cocktail establishment, GIN RUMMY, on Friday, May 26, 2023.
The cocktail program is masterfully led by Beverage Directors Danilo Kim, formerly of The Alibi Room and Nueva and Marcus Ragas, whose resume includes The Chestnut Club and Caboco.
Located at 822 Washington Boulevard, Marina del Rey, adjacent to Meisler’s popular Little Friend, GIN RUMMY takes over NUEVA after a successful three-year run.
Meisler states that he and his partners saw a need for a large and welcoming bar space in the neighborhood.
Meisler states:
“I’ve always loved the cocktails that come from beach cultures, just as much as I love the imagery and feel of beachy bars. I see a through line between a Tiki Bar, a Cuban Rum Bar, a Mexican Cantina, a Brazilian Quisque, a Spanish Chiringuito and a Venice Beach watering hole. They’re all timeless, relaxed, and fun, serving fantastic and unique drinks…
“…Gin Rummy is an homage to all things Beach Bar, from Nautical to Tropical, in a vintage parlor.”
At this gateway to Venice, GIN RUMMY invites passersby to escape to the tropics and get swept away, sipping exotic cocktails and enjoying delicious snacks in a pirate’s lair.
Gin Rummy’s spacious 200-seat setting…
The spacious 200-seat setting… reimagined and designed by Jared Meisler creates a colorful and ornate island paradise marrying nautical and South Pacific themes with contemporary design.
Enter Gin Rummy’s large front door…
Enter GIN RUMMY through the large front door just off Washington and take in the huge zinc-top mahogany bar with shelves stacked with vast arrays of rum, gin, tequila, and mezcal along with decorative tchotchkes of ships in bottles.
A large bank of skylights above the bar provides soft sunlight during golden hour as guests relax in a convivial state of mind.
When dusk turns to night, the far wall is illuminated by a row of vintage island-themed pinball machines giving GIN RUMMY a timeless, comfortable feel.
As one’s eye travels the room, imbibers take in giant redwood beams supporting a tongue and grove ceiling adorned by funky glassware. Native and tribal prints cover the bar stools and wood booths.
Scattered around the room are mini palm trees and lush tropical plants adorned with brass ship hardware. The thick posts are wrapped in nautical rope and accented with imagery of Caribbean and Polynesian life, ocean and boats and jungle paintings. Other notes include large bone-inlaid mirrors, woven wood light fixtures, rattan chairs, and lazy ceiling fans for a sultry Key Largo effect.
On Gin Rummy’s Outside…
Outside, the convertible indoor/outdoor patio exudes a tropical sandy beachy village vibe, adorned with wood carvings and carved wooden mirrors. The natural oak tables are painted with checker and backgammon boards, inviting guests to linger and play games comfortably in reclined rattan chairs. Lush tropical foliage is covered by a mahogany pergola illuminating the space with brass ship lights.
